Mottarone Train

This is the story of a train that is no longer there ... the Geom. Tadini was induced to draw up a project for a railway linking Stresa with the Mottarone summit. Thus, on July 12, 1911, the railway "Stresa - Mottarone" was opened to public service, even though, shortly after the opening, the "railway" was reclassified as an interurban tramway. The line of the line, about 10 km long and metric, started from Stresa with a double stop: from the Piazzale dell'Imbarcadero and from the side of the State Railroad Railway Station.

Along the line there were three stations (Vezzo - Gignese - Alpino) and two stops: the entire route was in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The rolling stock was admitted to Stresa and consisted of 5 electromotors and 3 "gardener" trailers; Four service wagons completed the fleet. Do not believe, think that the year 1945 was touched the record of 100,000 tickets !!! With the arrival of the 1950's and 60's, we began to hear the singing complaints that came from several parts that the railroad was old-fashioned, unproductive and that a car or cable car service could replace it. what a pity.....
